Still Connecting and Shaping Data

I'm still in the first section of the course, and over the last couple of days I learned how to:

  • Create Indexed columns

  • Create Conditional columns

  • Use the Group By function

  • Pivot/Unpivot data

  • Merge queries

  • Append queries

  • Identify and remedy potential data source errors

  • Ease workload by excluding queries from Refreshing, and only load what is needed to keep the report running smoothly.

I find it really interesting and useful that upon opening, the queries run again. It's also interesting to note that using the "folder" data source means that added data files will be uploaded automatically. (That's my understanding for now, at least.)

I think that as I progress in my journey, I'll be able to come back and learn about Data Source Parameters and Importing Excel Models, and those sections will make a little more sense to me. As it is, I don't really have any "background knowledge" or "personal experience" to connect the videos to.

I have finally made it through the first course section!

Next, I'll be learning about Data Modeling in Power BI.
